Tesla says Canada set a quarterly delivery record in Q3 2026, but won't say how many

Tesla's quarterly update names Canada as a record market but gives no count. Ottawa's rebate data fills in part of the picture.

Tesla had its best quarter ever for deliveries in Canada this summer, according to the company itself. Its Q3 2026 Update, posted on October 21, says it "achieved record quarterly deliveries in several markets, including Canada, Australia, Japan and Taiwan" (Tesla Q3 2026 Update). Tesla didn't publish a Canadian number. Transport Canada's rebate data gives a partial view: dealers filed 3,336 federal EVAP requests for the Model Y in July to September, up from 945 in April to June, and Ontario dealers filed most of them (Transport Canada EVAP data).

Did Tesla really set a record in Canada?

Yes, by Tesla's own account. In the Automotive section of its Q3 2026 Update, Tesla says it "achieved record quarterly deliveries in several markets, including Canada, Australia, Japan and Taiwan." The same update was filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as part of Tesla's October 21, 2026 Form 8-K, and it's linked from Tesla's investor relations site.

That's all Tesla says about Canada. It doesn't give a number, say how far past the old record it went, or break the total down by model.

Federal rebate data shows 3,336 Model Y requests in Q3, up from 945 in Q2.

How many Teslas did Tesla deliver in Q3 2026?

Worldwide, 486,532: 478,237 Model 3 and Model Y and 8,295 other models. That's about 6,400 more than in Q2 (480,126), but 2% fewer than in Q3 2025 (497,099) (Tesla Q3 2026 Update, operational summary). So Canada set a record in a quarter when Tesla's global deliveries were down year over year.

Tesla also says it ended the quarter with the largest order backlog for its passenger vehicles in four years, and that battery availability was still "the limiting factor" on how many cars it could build.

What does the federal rebate data show?

The closest public Canadian number is Transport Canada's EVAP statistics, which lists every dealer request for the federal Electric Vehicle Affordability Program rebate. I counted the Tesla rows in the September 2026 file:

Tesla Model Y, EVAP requestsMonth 1Month 2Month 3Quarter total
Q2 2026 (April to June)158223564945
Q3 2026 (July to September)1937572,3863,336

Source: Transport Canada, EVAP statistics, September 2026 CSV (rows dated March 30 to September 30, 2026), counted on October 22, 2026. A request is a dealer's incentive request, not a confirmed sale or delivery.

Of the 3,336 Q3 requests, Ontario dealers filed 2,394, British Columbia 605 and Quebec 337. The Model Y is the only Tesla in the file. The Shanghai-built Model 3 Premium doesn't show up at all, so the EVAP numbers say nothing about how many Model 3s were delivered.

What does this mean for GTA buyers?

Strong demand and a big backlog don't automatically mean longer waits, and Tesla hasn't said anything about Canadian delivery times. If you're shopping now, two dates matter more than the record:
