What did Tesla change?
Tesla's Robotaxi account posted a list of "Robotaxi updates" on X just before 1 a.m. Eastern on October 30 (late on October 29 in Texas) (Robotaxi on X). Under "Service", it said operating hours are now 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. That's two hours later than the 6 a.m. to midnight Tesla gave for Austin in its Q3 2026 Update on October 21.
The post doesn't name a city, so it isn't clear whether the new hours apply to every Robotaxi market or only some. Tesla also didn't say whether fleet size or service areas changed. We're not filling those gaps with outside estimates.
Tesla Robotaxi: "Operating hours are now 6am - 2am."
What's new for riders?
Tesla listed five rider features:
- A rear view camera feed riders can watch during the trip.
- Trip details that can be shared with a friend.
- A new Live Activity design and experience.
- Calm Mode, which dims the screen and sets the cabin lighting to "a relaxing state".
- Grok, now available in Tesla's Robotaxi Model Y vehicles.
It also listed three accessibility changes: an improved arrow in the app for finding the vehicle, haptic feedback to help riders locate their car, and music control through a screen reader.
Does this change anything in Canada?
Not directly. Tesla doesn't run Robotaxi in Canada. What Canadians can buy is FSD (Supervised), which Tesla Canada lists at $99 a month. Tesla says those features "require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous" (Tesla Canada). Longer hours matter mainly as a sign that Tesla is getting more comfortable running driverless cars late at night.
For more on how FSD works here, see our FSD in Canada guide, or read our stories on the bigger Houston service area and Tesla's Robotaxi Safety Report. In the U.S., Tesla has also launched a new FSD (Supervised) referral program.
