How news on The Electric Standard is researched, written, illustrated and corrected, and how money from partners is kept away from the reporting.

Who writes the news
The Electric Standard is run by Shervin, a Tesla Model Y Standard owner in the GTA who makes The Electric Standard on YouTube. Stories are researched and drafted with the help of AI tools. Every story is then reviewed, edited and approved by Shervin before it's published, and he's responsible for everything that appears here.
Primary sources, linked
Facts come from primary sources: government releases and data (for example Transport Canada, the Ontario Energy Board and Ontario.ca), company filings and official announcements, and court or council records. Every story lists and links its sources. If a claim can't be traced to a primary source, it's left out or the story is held until it can be.
Other outlets' reporting may be mentioned for context, but it isn't used as the source for a fact.
Original writing
Stories are written for this site in our own words. Quotes are short, exact and attributed to the person or document they come from.
Photos
News photos are free or openly licensed real photos (for example from Wikimedia Commons), chosen to match the story as closely as possible, and every photo is credited with its author and licence. Stills from Shervin's own videos aren't used to illustrate news stories.
Opinion is labelled
News stories are factual and sourced: they stick to what the sources say and link to them. Shervin's opinions are in his videos on this site. A written take, clearly labelled Opinion, appears only when he chooses to write one.
Affiliates and sponsors
The site earns money through my Tesla referral link and affiliate partners: EVBase, Tesery, T-Launch, Hansshow and Snuuzu. Partner discount codes may appear in a separate "Gear I use" box. Partners and sponsors never see stories before they're published, don't choose what's covered, and have no influence over the news. Sponsored content, if any is ever published, will be clearly labelled as sponsored.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it. Corrections are noted at the bottom of the story with the date and what changed. Small fixes that don't change the meaning, like typos, may be made without a note.
