The short answer

Yes, some non-Tesla EVs can charge at some Tesla Superchargers in Canada. Whether yours can depends on three things: whether your automaker has an agreement and an approved adapter (or a NACS port on the car), whether the specific Supercharger is open to your car, and whether you've set up payment the way your automaker says to. The rules come from each automaker and from Tesla, so always check your own automaker's Canadian page before you buy anything.

NACS stands for North American Charging Standard, the Tesla-style connector (see our glossary). Cars with a CCS1 port instead, such as the Nissan ARIYA (Nissan Canada), need an approved adapter.

Which Supercharger sites are open

Volkswagen Canada says plainly that "not all Tesla Superchargers are accessible to non-Tesla electric vehicles." Its cars can charge at sites Tesla has designated as "NACS Partners", and it tells owners to use the Tesla app or the Find Us map to locate compatible sites.

Nissan Canada adds a hardware detail for the ARIYA: it is compatible with certain Superchargers (V3 and V4 models), and the MyNISSAN app can filter its map to compatible Tesla Superchargers.

For Ontario, our Tesla Superchargers in Ontario guide covers how to check a site before you drive to it.

Adapters: what's allowed

Nissan says it plans to fit a NACS port as standard on future EVs for Canada and the U.S., so later models won't need an adapter.

How to start and pay for a session

Volkswagen: download the Tesla app, create an account, and add a payment method and your vehicle details, including that you have the NACS DC adapter. You can then find compatible sites and start and stop sessions in the app. Volkswagen notes that the Electrify Canada plan included with its EVs doesn't apply at Superchargers, and Plug&Charge doesn't work there.

Nissan ARIYA: activate the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network and pay for Supercharging sessions in the MyNISSAN app.

Prices are set by each network and can vary by area and time of day, according to Volkswagen. Check the app or the charger screen. For what Supercharging costs per kilometre, see Supercharger cost per km, and compare with home charging in the Ontario charging calculator.

Finding an open site in Ontario

Use the Tesla app or the Find Us map, as both automakers advise, or the MyNISSAN app's provider filter for the ARIYA. If a Supercharger won't work for your car

Ontario has other DC fast-charging networks that most CCS1 cars can use without an adapter, including Ivy at the ONroute stations on the 400 and 401 and Electrify Canada. Our Level 3 charging in Ontario guide covers them, with official links.

Questions

Can non-Tesla EVs use Tesla Superchargers in Canada?

Some can, at some sites. Volkswagen Canada says not all Tesla Superchargers are open to non-Tesla EVs, and its ID.4 and ID. Buzz can use sites Tesla designates as NACS Partners with Volkswagen's NACS DC adapter.

Do I need an adapter to use a Tesla Supercharger?

If your EV has a CCS1 port, yes. Volkswagen and Nissan both sell their own NACS DC adapters for this. Nissan says it plans to fit a NACS port as standard on future EVs for Canada and the U.S., which removes the need for an adapter.

Can I use a third-party NACS adapter?

Volkswagen says aftermarket adapters are not permitted and may affect warranty eligibility. Nissan says only Nissan-compliant adapters may be used, and that unapproved adapters can damage the vehicle and violate Tesla's Supercharger terms.

How do I pay at a Supercharger with a non-Tesla EV?

Volkswagen drivers pay through the Tesla app with a payment method and vehicle details added. Nissan ARIYA drivers pay through the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network in the MyNISSAN app.

Does an adapter work at Level 2 or Destination chargers?

No. Volkswagen says its adapter is for DC fast chargers with NACS connectors only, and Nissan says Tesla Destination chargers, Wall Connectors and Mobile Connectors don't work with the ARIYA.
