The Netherlands' RDW approves changes to Tesla's FSD (Supervised) in Europe, including a 10% speed-margin cap

The system gets its European name on the screen, and the speed margin drops from +50% to +10%. It arrives over the air on HW4 cars.

The Netherlands' vehicle authority, the RDW, says it has assessed and approved changes to Tesla's FSD (Supervised) driver assistance system in Europe (RDW). The system's European name, Tesla Assisted Driving (TAD), will now show on the in-car display, and the maximum speed margin drivers can set drops from +50% to +10%. The RDW announced it on November 3, 2026.

What did the RDW approve?

The RDW, the Dutch authority that type-approved FSD (Supervised) for Europe, says it assessed and approved a set of changes to the system (RDW announcement). The new name, Tesla Assisted Driving (TAD), goes on the screen and into the manual. The RDW says the name change doesn't affect how the system works: it remains a driver assistance system, and the driver remains responsible for driving.

The speed margin "was +50% and is now being limited to a maximum of +10%."

What changes with the speed margin?

Drivers can set a speed margin, which the RDW describes as "a percentage by which the system may deviate from the applicable speed limit if necessary for safety and traffic flow." That margin was +50% and is now capped at +10%. Each time the car starts, it resets to 0%, and other speed-related functions are off by default.

The RDW says it checked how the changes were implemented and how the system behaves, and found "no adverse or unintended effects" on the system or the car's driving behaviour.

Which countries does it cover?

The RDW says the existing type approval remains valid under the same conditions, and it has informed the member states that accepted that approval: Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia. The update applies to HW4 and later cars and arrives over the air. The RDW didn't give a rollout date.

What does it mean for Canada?

Nothing directly. European approvals are separate from Canada's rules, and this announcement doesn't mention Canada. For where FSD stands here, see FSD in Canada.
