Comfort

Model Y Standard vs Premium: comfort.

Price isn't the only difference. Here's what the Model Y Standard gives up in comfort compared with the Premium, and what I'd add back. Spec differences come from published trim comparisons; confirm on the car in front of you, since Canadian Berlin-built cars can differ from US cars.

Sound

This is the biggest one people ask me about. I did a full speaker test:

Model Y Standard Speaker Test - Tesla's Cheapest Audio System

Ride, road and wind noise

Passive dampers and non-acoustic front glass mean more road and wind noise reaches the cabin than on the Premium, on paper. On GTA highways that's most noticeable on rough concrete stretches. I'll add real decibel numbers if I test it Unconfirmed.

Rattles

Any new car can develop rattles; I'll report anything specific to my Standard as it comes up. Tesla service can fix most under warranty.

The empty console, no glass roof, no rear screen

The open console is the one I notice daily: no lid, nowhere to hide things. The roof glass is there but covered inside. Rear passengers get manual vents instead of a screen.

Common questions

What do you lose with the Model Y Standard?

Compared with the Premium, owners and spec sources list fewer speakers with no subwoofer, a simpler suspension, a covered roof, an open console, heated-only front seats (no ventilation), and no rear screen. Check Tesla's current spec sheet for Canadian cars.

Is the Model Y Standard louder inside?

Some reviewers say it's a bit noisier because it skips acoustic glass. I haven't measured it, so I don't quote decibel numbers.

Can I add features back to the Standard?

Some, like console organizers and mats. Others, like the suspension, can't be added: accessories I tested.

Is the Premium worth the extra cost?

If you do lots of highway driving or want more range and AWD, maybe. Compare prices and range on Standard vs Premium.
