By Shervin M · Last updated: (Toronto)
BYD hasn't announced a Canadian launch date, models or prices yet. Here's what's actually confirmed, updated whenever something changes.
The short answer (as of October 29, 2026)
- BYD: no date, models, prices or dealers announced in Canada.
- Chery (Omoda & Jaecoo): Canadian site is live with a retailer finder; no models or prices yet.
- Geely: first vehicles to Canadian buyers in 2027, per Geely.
No named GTA dealer and no Canadian pricing from any of the three.

"Confirmed" means the company or the Government of Canada says it on a page I checked. "Reported" means a media outlet says it and the company hasn't.
BYD in the GTA and Ontario
BYD hasn't named a Toronto or Ontario dealership. Bloomberg and The Globe and Mail reported that BYD is looking for sites for about 20 dealerships, starting in the Greater Toronto Area, and EV reported that BYD has been testing four models in Canada. BYD hasn't confirmed either.
Which BYD models could come to Canada
None are confirmed. BYD's Canadian site shows only its global lineup and technology, not a Canadian model list (byd.com/en-ca). Any Seal, Atto 3 or Sealion for Canada is speculation until BYD says so.
BYD Canada price: what we know
Nothing official. There's no Canadian price list from BYD, and BYD hasn't announced pre-orders. If a site or seller asks you for a BYD deposit, treat it with caution.
Will BYD build a plant in Canada?
BYD hasn't announced one. The only factory report I found is about Chery: Bloomberg reported Chery is weighing a possible Canadian plant. Not confirmed.
Chery (Omoda, Jaecoo) in Canada
Confirmed: the Omoda & Jaecoo Canada website is live and has a "Find a retailer" tool. Reported only: Reuters says early 2027; Car Guide says spring 2027 with about 12 dealers and models revealed on November 10; EV says the site said "coming late 2026", which I couldn't find on the live site on October 29.
Geely in Canada
Geely Auto said on October 9, 2026 that it is entering Canada, with a Canadian team in place and a retail and service network being built, ahead of its first vehicles for Canadian consumers in 2027. Models, prices and locations will come later (Geely newsroom). Reported only: Driving.ca and CBC say a Zeekr trademark has been filed in Canada.
The China EV import quota
Up to 49,000 China-built EVs can come in during the quota year from March 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027, at the 6.1% most-favoured-nation tariff, first come, first served. Global Affairs Canada says it could set aside part of the quota for automakers, including new entrants (Notice to Importers 1168).
As of the report updated October 23, 2026, 15,931 permits were used and 33,069 remain. The second period (from September 1) shows 328 used in September and none yet in October (Global Affairs Canada).
More: no China-built EVs used the quota so far in October and Tesla halts Model 3 Premium orders over the quota.
Rebates: does EVAP apply to China-built EVs?
No. The federal EVAP covers vehicles made in Canada or a country with a free-trade agreement with Canada (Transport Canada). See my EV rebates guide.
